Ward 1 Dems: Nadeau's Decade of Service Leaves Ward One Stronger

WASHINGTON – In response to Ward 1 Councilmember Brianne Nadeau's decision not to seek re-election, the Ward 1 Democratic Committee, the governing body of the Ward 1 Democrats, issued the following statement:
“Councilmember Brianne Nadeau has been part of the fabric of Ward 1 for more than a decade. Since first being elected in 2014, Brianne has been a consistent and passionate progressive voice for our Ward 1 constituents on the D.C. Council.
“Brianne has stood with tenants fighting to stay in their homes and pushed the District to do better by families living on the edge. She has made immigrant neighbors feel seen and protected when others tried to push them out. She has supported violence-intervention work and strived to make our communities safer. She has also brought the same focus to basic services, making sure that District government works better for the communities who rely on it most. And she did all this by bringing people together, building broad coalitions even when powerful interests tried to block her.
“Brianne has shown up, listened, and fought for what she’s believed is right, even when the politics were tough. Ward 1 is stronger and more just because of that.
“As she steps away from the Council, we’re grateful not only for her record, but for her passion and her willingness to lead with courage. We wish her and her family the very best in this next chapter. Thank you, Brianne. Ward 1 is better because of you.
“Now, for the first time since 1982, the Ward 1 Council seat will be open with no incumbent on the ballot. The Ward 1 Democrats are here to channel the energy of our neighborhoods into this primary. We believe politics works best when people are engaged, when campaigns are competitive, and when Democratic voters know this is their home and their fight."
