WASHINGTON – Ward One Democrats will move ahead with endorsing candidates in the June 16, 2026, Democratic primary after members on Saturday approved a resolution supporting the creation of a formal endorsement process for races on the Ward 1 Democratic primary ballot.
The vote clears the way for the organization to design a process and meeting calendar it can use to evaluate candidates in next year’s contests, including the first open Ward 1 D.C. Council seat in 43 years and other competitive races expected on the ballot.
Under the group’s by-laws, any endorsement must be decided at a ward-wide meeting by secret ballot and requires support from two-thirds of registered Ward 1 Democrats present and voting.
